Course Outline & Assessment Information
Objectives
This class takes you through the basics of Christianity: what Christians believe and why; how we can know God; what God has done for the world through Jesus Christ; faith, hope and love; the reality and power of grace; and how we are equipped for our journey of faith. This subject aims to introduce students to the foundational beliefs and teachings of Christianity.
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the core beliefs and teachings of Christianity
- Demonstrate an understanding of the role of the Christian Scriptures in Christianity
- Demonstrate an understanding of the place of Jesus Christ in Christianity
- Demonstrate an understanding of the ways in which God has demonstrated his love for humanity
- Demonstrate an understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ
Although not an assessable part of the subject, a key result of the course should be a heightened interest in and appreciation of the richness and value of the Christian Scriptures.

Planning Your Study
This subject consists of seven Classes. But not every Class is of the same length or detail, and the exercises, readings, and assignments can vary from one Class to the next. This is partly a result of trying to “group” related material together rather than artificially split it up into smaller Classes. There are pieces of assessment to be completed after each Class. However, in a couple of instances the assessment only requires that you have completed the readings and reflective exercises.
Texts and Supporting Materials
- The Bible (the New International Version will be used unless otherwise noted).
- Basic Christianity, by John Stott.
Several of the Classes contain assigned readings from Basic Christianity. You should read the assigned chapters as instructed. The assigned reading is an important part of the course material and will greatly enrich your understanding of the subject.

Assessment Submission
Your login determines which options are available to you throughout the ACCM Learning Management System. When you're ready to submit an assessment, select the "My Assessments" option from the Student Services dropdown menu and follow the instructions for uploading your document. Please note: file sizes must be less than 512kb and of acceptable file type or the system will not accept them. Acceptable file types include only:
- PDF (Adobe Reader format documents)
- TXT (standard text file format documents)
- DOC (MS Word documents) and
- RTF (Rich Text Format documents)
